I was diagnosed with a rare form of heart disease called Left Ventricular Noncompaction Cardiomyopathy in 2010.
This disease is fairly new having been classified as recent as 1984. Because of that there isn’t much knowledge or awareness about it. When I was diagnosed I was terrified, I really didn’t have anywhere to turn for help. I decided that a diagnosis was NOT going to be my identity. It was something I was living with, and “living” is exactly what I was going to do. I made a plan to hike 500 miles of the Appalachian trail and the rest is History.
